2019 Was A Good Year But Not Without Challenges – Moncton Chamber

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton says many employers still struggled to find enough workers in 2019.

CEO John Wishart says growing the workforce continues to be a big challenge.

Wishart says another challenge noted by businesses in a recent Chamber survey was the homelessness issue and security.

“Homeless individuals who panhandle (and) there’s an increases in petty thefts and vandalism. The third area is around needles, sometimes around the property,” he says.

Wishart says Greater Moncton has been noted as being a great place to do business and he says it’s important to keep that in mind as the community seeks solutions for homelessness.

But he adds a positive sign this year was a construction boom with an expansion in multi-unit residential and commercial space thanks to low vacancy rates.
