Fire Forces Tenants Out Of West End Moncton Building

A man was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation following a fire Thursday morning at a six-unit apartment building in Moncton’s west end.

Around 10:30am, firefighters responded to Prince Street and found heavy smoke coming from the roof.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Dennis Dollemont says the other tenants made it out safely but it’s not clear when they can return.

He says the building had a lot of smoke damage and the electrical system will have to be checked first.

Dollemont says it’s believed the fire started in a top floor unit but the cause has not been determined.

The Red Cross is helping the man who was in hospital and later released.

Other tenants made their own arrangements for places to stay since the building will need cleanup and repairs.
