It is expected to be a packed house at the Avenir Centre on December 17, as the women of Team Canada take on Team USA in a competitive game of hockey.
Canada is hosting three games in this Rivalry series. The first game in Canada is being played in Moncton.
Moncton City Councillor Greg Turner says this definitely a first for us, “To host the women’s Team Canada against the US, women’s hockey in general at this level, we’ve never hosted in the province of New Brunswick.”
Turner says this is a great opportunity to see some talented hockey players, “Especially the people who have women in the family who are playing hockey. These are the role models and to show the young women the possibilities. This area of sport is really growing, especially in North America.”
The other two games being hosted in Canada will be played in Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.
“They play at the Olympics, and they play, of course for the World Championships. They are the top team. It is not a junior team, this is a senior level team for Canada. This is the top of the top, and it is very, very exciting. They are very skilled and it will be fast play,” Turner says.
