Moncton’s New YMCA Is On Time and On Budget

Construction is going well on the new YMCA in Moncton’s north end.

Work on the two-storey, 35,000 square-foot satellite facility began in the spring.

YMCA of Greater Moncton CEO Zane Korytko says the builders are ahead of schedule and the project is slightly under budget.

“The new building on Twin Oaks should be fully enclosed within the next week or so. Already, the crews are in there building the inside,” he says.

The new $15 million YMCA will be about half the size of the current Y and will feature fitness areas, an indoor splash pad and playground, multi-purpose spaces and an indoor track.

The federal, provincial and municipal governments are each contributing $4 million and the YMCA will be raising the remaining $3 million.

The City of Moncton is also extending Twin Oaks Drive at a further cost of $2 million.

Due to concerns about vandalism, Korytko says security has been added especially given the recent copper wire thefts at the main facility on War Veterans Avenue.
