Over 2600 turkeys are still needed before the Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters turkey drive wraps up on Friday night.
Sue Stultz launched the drive 22 years ago, but the Moncton firefighters have also played a big role in helping collect the frozen birds and storing them in a large refrigerated truck, while the drive is ongoing.
This is the second turkey drive Chief Conrad Landry has been involved with, “We deal with this, saving lives on a regular basis, but this is where it really hits home. I am saddened that in 2019 we still have this issue. We do as much as we can, and this is our small part to help.”
He says one of the best things is to see the kids dropping off their donations, “When the kids come in with the turkey that is almost as big as them and weighs more and they bring it in. You can see, they understand and they’re proud of it.”
Donations can dropped off down back at the St. George Boulevard fire station.
Landry says, “People consider firefighters to be heroes, we’re not heroes. Sue Stultz is a hero. She does it on a volunteer basis and because she loves it. The firefighters just want to help because it is a good thing and a needed thing.”
4175 turkeys are needed by Friday at 7pm.
