Students To “Fill the Buses” For Local Food Banks

Students from Anglophone East schools are once again collecting non perishable foods to help local food banks..

Over the past 20 years, students have been filling school buses with canned goods and other items.

Anglophone East Spokesperson Aubrey Kirkpatrick says all of the donations are given to Food Depot Alimentaire, “We did some approximate math and we have raised over 530, 000 pounds of food over that time period. It equates to around $1.5 million dollars worth of goods.”

The students often challenge each other by launching competitions. Some are within the schools, others have the high schools competing to see who can collect the most food.

“This teaches kids that there is this need out there and we have the ability to help one item at a time. When you add it all up, it makes a big impact,” Kirkpatrick says.

The Fill the Bus campaign wraps up on December 17th.
