Numerous Complaints On Current Waste Removal Services

Moncton City Council has been asked that garbage services to be returned to unionized workers.

President of CUPE Local 51 Leo Melanson says they’ve received over 200 complaints since the service was handed over to a private contractor.

The city opted for an outside company to take care of waste collection while they reviewed options to help with injury and retention rates.

“This is a poor service. In a few years we will have payed more for the contracting with less quality service. We are requesting that sanitation be returned as a public service under Local 51 while the city still owns the vehicles for collection,” says Melanson.

He says garbage is often left littering the streets which he says only contributes to Moncton’s growing rat problem.

The city has yet to release any results from their assessment.
