Runners and their dogs will gather at Mapleton Park tomorrow.
They’re participating in a five kilometre Canicross Fun Run in support of Fulfilling Hearts Rescue.
President of the Moncton Dog Runners Club Sarah Peel says, “It is the sport of cross country running with a dog. our dog runs a sled dog. They have a harness on and they pull and they run in front of you. You run together, and work using voice commands, usually just general knowledge of each other. The event is open to runners with dog s or without. Any kind of harness with a back attachment is totally fine. The idea is that you run with a hands free leash, so that you are able to run freely and your dog is attached to you and not able to get away.”
Fulfilling Hearts rescues abandoned or unwanted dogs, and helps to find them a forever home.
“They are all foster based so when dogs come in, they are sent to a foster home and learn what it is like to live in house, then they transition into their new home a little differently than they would if they were in a foster situation,” Peel says.
All proceeds go to rehabilitating, training and rehoming the dogs.
The fun run gets underway at 8am on November 9th, at the Gorge Road entrance of Mapleton Park..
