Moncton City Council has voted against the suggested connection of Muirfield dive to Casino drive.
It was a big victory for concerned Magnetic Hill Estates residents, who worried about the negative impact it would’ve had.
After much deliberation, Moncton City Council ultimately decided against the decision.
Barb Stead, who led the petition says the fence separating the streets was part of a previous agreement between resident and the city.
“We have remained faithful to keeping the fence closed, as per the agreement we entered into with the council and we were really pleased tonight that they honoured the agreement and I think it speaks volume to any new families coming to our neighbourhood,” she says.
Residents were afraid of what would happen if that fence was removed.
Not only would there be an influx of traffic, Stead says, but families would be exposed to things like drug trafficking and prostitution that take place in the Casino parking lot.
“I’m glad that common sense prevailed and we didn’t make another mistake in opening up to a casino parking lot,” Stead says.
Stead says over 400 residents signed a petition, against the proposed change.
