Stay Home If You Have The Flu

The flu vaccine can help protect you from getting the flu but if you do get sick – stay home!

Moncton pharmacist Cynthia Ferguson says if you have the flu, you should wait at least 24 hours after a fever has ended.

“A lot of people will go to work sick or send their kids to school sick but the flu virus lasts in the air for about six hours as droplets.”

For non-porous surfaces like tables or door knobs, Ferguson says the virus can last up to 24 hours.

The vaccine became available this week and pharmacists are among those who are now providing the flu shot in New Brunswick.
