Learning The Political Process With Student Vote 2019

Schools across the province are being encouraged to register for a program called Student Vote.

It teaches students more about the political process, with a vote for the candidates in their riding. Spokesperson Frederique Dombrowski says registered schools are provided with a package that includes ballot boxes, riding maps, campaign posters, and ballots.

“We currently have about 75 per cent of all eligible schools in the province registered to participate, which is incredible. That is around 246 schools in the province,” Dombrowski says.

This program exposes students to party platforms, how to research candidates and even what happens at a polling station when they go to vote.

The students participate in the classroom or as a combined effort of the entire school.

“We actually did the provincial election in New Brunswick last year. We had 24, 000 students participate from 175 schools, and we were able to gather even more support this time around, so we are really excited,” Dombrowski says.

The program has been offered in the province since 2004.
