Many youth are expected to take part in Climate Action Marches today across the county as they raise awareness of the importance of protecting our environment.
A Kindergarten teacher at Hillcrest School believes kids connect more with nature than adults do.
Kelly Francheville says she often sees the children picking up litter in the playground and mourning for things that have happened to the earth.
“I always tell the Kindergarten students everyday, that the younger people take much better care of the earth than the older people. We are passing it onto them so they can teach their families and the adults in their world to do the same,” Francheville says.
She adds the we as adults have not done a very good job of taking care of the earth.
“I think kids connect more with nature naturally than adults. With age and experience we move away from that and we have to make more of an effort. I see the kids on the playground picking up litter and actually mourning for things that have happened to our earth ,” Francheville adds.
A large march with hundreds of participants will be held in downtown Moncton beginning at noon. They’ll be walking from the Avenir Centre to Moncton City Hall at noon today. Several downtown businesses will close over the lunch hour to allow their employees to take part.
Marches will also be held in several other New Brunswick communities as well, including Sackville and Saint John.
