Murray Beach Privatization Plan On Hold

The Higgs government had intended to privatize Murray Beach Provincial Park next season.

But that plan appears to be on hold in the wake of destruction from Dorian and a massive cleanup is underway which will take weeks.

NB Parks director Allen Bard says the employees at the now-closed Murray Beach needed some support.

“A lot of employees have worked there… some have worked there for 30 years in that park… Murray Beach in particular. So for them it was devastating,” he says.

He adds the estimated cost to cleanup fallen trees and to repair or rebuild park infrastructure is expected to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Dorian caused more destruction at Murray Beach than any other provincial park.

Bard confirms the province is still managing Murray Beach and a decision has not yet been made about privatization moving forward.

Previously, the provincial government had intended to issue a request for proposals this fall to find a private operator for the park next year.
