New Deputy Mayor named for Moncton City Council

Moncton City Council has selected a new Deputy Mayor as it enters its fourth year of its mandate.

Two Councillors were nominated during Tuesday night’s meeting.

Councillor Bryan Butler nominated Councillor Dave Steeves, while Councillor Charles Leger nominated Councillor Paulette Theriault.

After a vote, Councillor Theriault became the new Deputy Mayor for a one-year term.

The role isn’t new to Theriault.

“Someone asked me if I have actually been in this position before. Yes, I have. I was elected for two mandates and I still have all of my speeches Madame Maire,” Theriault stated.

She added she felt touched to be nominated but also felt she was up to the challenge.

Councillor Shawn Crossman served in the role for the past year.
