Moncton Mets home opener on Sunday

Baseball season begins for the Moncton Mets.

Their home opener against the Chatham Ironmen will be played on Sunday afternoon.

General Manager Mark Shaddick says for those who have never experienced senior baseball, you’re in for some exciting action on the field.

“People who don’t follow senior baseball, don’t realize the high calibre of it. Lots of strikeouts, lots of home runs. Most of these players have played elite-level baseball through to College baseball. So it is considered a semi-pro league.”

He says they’re planning many new activities for this season to help make the games even more exciting for the fans.

“The kids love it. The kids are all excited and the players are very friendly. After the game, the kids come on the field, hanging out with the players and getting autographs,” Shaddick says.

Home games are played on Sunday and Wednesday nights.

The first pitch for Sunday’s home opener will be thrown at 4 pm at Kiwanis Park.
