Local Group Helping To Cleanup Needles In Greater Moncton

More and more needles are being found in areas around Greater Moncton.

But a reminder that you should never touch them, unless it is done properly.

Needles Awareness, was established in the Hub City around a year ago.

Volunteer Denise Ouelette says needles should be picked up using gloves or a gripper, “We have containers that we put them in. We can’t just put them in the garbage because then it becomes a risk to City workers or garbage men. We also do a sweep around the area. Last week we were contacted because someone spotted three needles, but then we found two more.”

Ouelette says since December they have picked up around 800 needles in Moncton.

“It’s not only a downtown problem. We do see more downtown, but they are all over the City. We have found one in one area, and then found 200 in another, so it varies,” Ouelette says.

If you find a needle, it can be reported via a message on the Needles Awareness Facebook page. One of their volunteers will come and ensure it is disposed of properly.
