Grownups Read Things They Did As Kids has been performed all across Canada for the past 12 years.
Next week, it will be performed for the first time in Moncton.
Producer Dan Misener explains, “It’s an open mic where people sign up to share weird little kid writing, angsty teen writing and lots of stuff in between. Some of it is quite funny, some of it is quite strange, and parts of it are a little bit sad or bittersweet, so it is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.”
Misener says it all started back in 2007, “My wife and I were visiting her parents over the holidays, and we went down into the basement and started going through old boxes. We found my wife’s diary from when she was 12, 13 or 14 years old and we read it out loud to each other.”
A few more locals are also needed to take the stage on July 10th to share their stories, poetry or diary entries from years past..
“We have a pretty strict first name only policy. If you sign up to read, you don’t have to worry that you’re going to be instantly googled or that your shameful teenage past diary entries are going to come back to haunt you.”
