Two More North Atlantic Right Whales Dead In the Gulf Of St. Lawrence

A total of four dead North Atlantic right whales have been found in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada confirmed two more were located near the Acadian Peninsula and west of the Magdalen Islands, Quebec.

One necropsy have been done so far, on a whale found earlier this month and a second is underway.

Experts from UPEI and the University of Montreal says there was no evidence of recent fishing gear entanglement or of being struck by a fishing vessel.

More testing is being done to determine a cause of death.

The DFO says it is currently working with marine mammal response partners to identify next steps.
