Will There Be Rainbow Crosswalks This Summer?

There will be no rainbow crosswalks in the City of Moncton again this summer.

The Transportation Association of Canada conducted a study on Decorative Crosswalk Pavement Markings, but in a statement they say there wasn’t enough data to develop new guidelines.

They’ll propose a new project in the fall to complete research into the safety impacts of decorative crosswalks.

In the meantime, City of Moncton spokesperson Isabelle Leblanc says they will await a recommendation from TAC before changing the standard colour of their crosswalks.

Banners will be hung instead, as they were last year. They are expected to go up on July 7th.

Spokesperson for Riverview Meghan Cross says the Town plans to repaint existing rainbow crosswalks on Cleveland Ave and Fatima Drive. There will also be a rainbow crosswalk at Riverview High.

Dieppe will also have the colourful crosswalks at the intersection of Marché Street and Gauvin Road.
