Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that affects over 77 thousand Canadians and the Atlantic region has one of the highest rates in the world.
Todd Russel is with MS Atlantic and he is the co-coordinator of the Moncton MS walk.
“Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system, the brain and the spinal cord. It interferes with the brains signal to the rest of the body,” Russel explains.
The event has been going on for 23 years and over $9 million has been raised.
However, Russel says it’s important to continue to raise funds for the disease.
All the money raised goes back to those affected for research and advocacy as well as for any equipment needed.
The MS walk will be held on Sunday May 26th and will begin at 9 am at the Chocolate River Station.
