Youth Football Season To Get Underway This Weekend For GMFA

The spring season is set to kick off this weekend for football players and fans in Greater Moncton.

Over 175 kids have registered to learn the skills of the game.

Greater Moncton Football Association President Dennis Ronan says there are a lot of myths surrounding the safety of football and they are trying to correct that, “We really want the sport of football to be as safe as it can be. All of our Coaches are Safe Contact trained and we recently added a new Technical Director, Moncton High School Coach John Allanach. ”

Ronan says, “When full contact football is introduced, we want to make sure all of our athletes have the skills that are required. Learning to run to a player, and get in a hit position to safely bring him to the ground without fear of injury. We want to alleviate the fear of the game, not only from the players, but for the parents, so they can see what fun football really is, and how safe it really is. There are a lot of myths surrounding the safety of football, and we are trying to correct that.”

Ronan says, “They can’t play King of the Castle anymore, so we have to teach them how to fall, get up, run and just have fun. Skills and thrills, that is what we are teaching them as they advance to the next level of the game.”
