A resident in the village of Alma is hoping a stage production will help raise much needed funds.
Jane Chrysostom says with an increase in tourists in the summer, the community often faces boil water orders, “We learned that we need $184,000 in the village just to find the new water source. That money is not available in our very tiny community and it is not available through federal or provincial funding programs.”
She wrote the 12 act production, called H2WHOA.
“At the village council meeting in March, Mayor Shortt said if someone wanted to take the initiative to do something, then May the force be with them. We did. We did something, and we created this show to both entertain and bring some awareness to this situation,” Chrysostom says.
Around thirty people are involved, “Behind the scenes, on the stage, twelve different acts and each act has a water themed twist to it,”
“We’re so fortunate to have folks stepping forward to help from all over,” Chrysostom says.
“Bit players who love Alma and heard about the show and its cause are coming from as far away as Fredericton. The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra in Moncton will recreate an iconic score and scene from a famous Alfred Hitchcock movie. A professional magician will perform water-themed illusions. The 12 acts come one after another, with folks of every age from the community who are stepping up to the microphone, or engaging the audience with unexpected and amazingly poignant roles.”
H2WHOA will be performed on May 4th.
