The Beauséjour Family Crisis Resource Centre in Shediac has welcomed a new member to its team.
Marielle, the support poodle will be offering a calming presence for trauma victims.
One of her main commands is ‘hug’, where she will lay her front paws across the client.
Kristal LeBlanc, the centre’s director says the slight pressure slows the body’s cortisol production and boosts oxytocin levels.
She says the pooch can help victims tell their story without feeling like they are reliving it.
By offering relief for victims to tell their stories more clearly, LeBlanc hopes for better justice due to better recounting.
She will make her official introduction at the Shoppers Run for Women on May 5th.
