The Karing Kitchen in Moncton is collecting milk bags in an effort to help the homeless.
Manager Bruce Lawson says when weaved together, they provide a mat, and dry place for a person to sit, “My intention is to keep them local because of the homelessness situation in Moncton. It is a nice cushion for someone, and it beats a piece of cardboard. We have already given a few out.”
Lawson says for one person, it takes around five hours and 400 to 500 milk bags to make one mat, “For one person to do the cutting and the looping, it will take five to six hours to make one. Last week, a group of five made three between 9am and 1pm.”
He adds they have already had several volunteers come forward, but many more are needed.
