National Drug Agency Being Created For Pharmacare

Prescription drugs can be extremely costly especially for anyone without insurance coverage.

The Trudeau government intends to introduce a national pharmacare program.

More details were unveiled in this week’s federal budget.

Federal health minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor says the first step is the creation of a national drug agency.

She says the role of the agency will be to negotiate drug prices and to decide which medications would be included in the plan.

Critics have suggested a national drug plan would simply be too costly for the government to maintain.

The working group on pharmacare recently unveiled an interim report with a final draft due in late spring.
