Planning A Flight? What’s In Your Suitcase?

The airport is a busy place at this time of year, as everyone heads out for March Break.

As your pack your bags, there are a number of items you and take, and others you should leave at home.

Now that cannabis is legal, you may be wondering how much you can take with you.

First thing you need to know, is you cannot cross international borders with marijuana, even if you are going to a place where it is also legal.

Spokesperson for the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority Christine Langlois says there are limits when you travel within Canada, “The legal amount of cannabis which is 30 grams for recreational and up to 150 for medical. If it is medical though, be sure to have your medical documentation with you.”

As for other items, “Liquids, gels and aerosol have to be kept in a 100 millilitre container and they have to all fit in a clear one litre plastic bag. If you have more than that, it’s okay, but it has to go in your checked luggage. If ever, despite all of your efforts, you do find yourself with something that can’t be in your carry-on, you do have options. You can place it in your car, or mail it to yourself, even to your destination,” Langlois says.

There is an exception for children younger than two years old, you are allowed to have more liquids, but be prepared to show it at the test point.
