Smoke detectors help alert residents during Riverview fire

The alarm from smoke detectors alerted two residents when a fire broke out in their Riverview home and helped to get them out safely.

Fire and Rescue arrived at Kirton Court at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday and found smoke coming from the attic and in the home.

Firefighters quickly knocked down flames, but there was water, fire, and smoke damage in areas including the attic and wall.

The Moncton Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, NB Power, Codiac RCMP, and the Town of Riverview Public Works Department also assisted on the scene.

Firefighters were on the scene for around 2.5 hours.

Residents are reminded to change the batteries in their smoke detectors with the time change, which happened at 2 a.m. Sunday.
