The New Brunswick Child and Youth Advocate released a report with four recommendations after a shocking case of child neglect in Saint John.
Five children between the ages of six months to 8.5 years were living in squalor in a home with fleas and human and animal feces on the walls and floors, and in some cases even on the ceiling.
Norm Bossé’s four recommendations include making sure social workers understand the legislative powers they have to enter a home and removing children who are believed to be in danger.
Another recommendation is to Support Child Protection social workers by ensuring all training is completed prior to working with clients and to review workloads so that social workers have enough time to work effectively with their clients.
