Provincial Finance Minister Determined To Balance Budget

It has been a significant year for the MLA for Moncton Northwest.

Ernie Steeves was re-elected as a member of the new Conservative government.

He was also named to the role of Finance Minister and President of the Treasury Board.

Steeves presented his first Capital budget last month, and he plans to do what needs to be done to balance the budget, “Your kid comes to you and really wants something and you really want to be able to give it to him, but you think, I can’t because I can’t afford it right now. You ask them to check back with you in a little while, maybe a year or two and maybe then you can afford it. That’s what it comes down to. It’s that simple almost.”

Steeves says he is okay with making the hard decisions and is ready for any criticism that comes along with it.

“Since the Capital budget, there have been some complaints absolutely, but there have been far more come up to me and agree that this had to be done. While it is on my watch, I will do what has to be done to balance the budget,” Steeves says.”
