Grand Barachois man facing drug trafficking charges

Drug trafficking charges have been laid in connection with an investigation in Southeastern New Brunswick.

In January, members of the New Brunswick RCMP Provincial Crime Reduction Unit (PCRU) launched a drug trafficking investigation.

Three homes were searched on February 22, by PCRU members, the New Brunswick RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, and the Federal Serious and Organized Crime unit.

The residences were on Francois Road in Grand Barachois, Stead Street in Shediac, and Cap Bimet Boulevard in Grand Barachois.

A 40-year-old Grand Barachois man and a 53-year-old Shediac man were arrested.

The Shediac man was later released.

Police seized quantities of what is believed to be one kilogram of cocaine, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia and money.

The Grand Barachois man has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and failure to comply with a release order. He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 5, for a bail hearing.
