A lot of residents in Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick spent the day digging out.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Jill Maepea says all of the snow and high winds were the results of a stalled storm system.
“What happened was the snow we saw on Friday in the province here, that system passed through and it it stalled south of Nova Scotia, and that’s what caused all the snow in Nova Scotia. So we’re just on, the edges, on the fringe of that system. It’s not a very large storm, it’s just because it’s not moving so it’s constantly giving light snow to the area. It has been a multi-day event.
Measurements taken at the Greater Moncton airport at of 8 am Monday, were at 15 centimetres.
“It only affected a small portion of the province. We haven’t really seen a really large snowstorm this winter in New Brunswick. It seems like we’ve been kind of getting these smaller moderate, more snowfalls for for this season,” Maepea adds.
As for whether there are any other storms on the radar for Environment Canada, Maepea says the rest of the week should be fairly quiet for the province of New Brunswick.
Students in Anglophone East had the day off, and Francophone South students in Moncton, Dieppe, and the Southeastern part of the province were also off for the day.
Winter storm warnings were issued on Sunday afternoon, and remained in effect for Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick New Brunswick as of 2pm on Monday afternoon.
Snow and blowing snow caused slippery road conditions and visibility issues.
