Where Will The Homeless Go When Emergency Shelter Closes In March?

The City of Moncton’s out-of-the-cold emergency shelter plans to be open for anyone who needs it until at least March.

But questions have been raised about what will happen to the homeless at the end of the winter.

YMCA Reconnect’s Lisa Ryan says the ultimate goal is find affordable housing.

“To be able to connect to the individuals, identify the needs that they have and plug them into supports… so that when we do match them with housing and supports it is long-term,” says Ryan.

Shelter co-organizer Dr. Susan Crouse of the Salvus Clinic admits it will be a challenging to find affordable places to live.

However, Dr. Crouse says a number of individuals have already come forward to say they have a house or a building available.
