The Higgs government has revised a provincial school nutrition policy and will once again allow chocolate milk and fruit juices to be sold in New Brunswick schools.
Premier Blaine Higgs had promised to lift that ban during the election campaign.
Education minister Dominic Cardy says a lot of concerns had been raised about how restrictive the so-called Policy 711 had been.
Under the changes, breakfast programs will have more flexibility for food choices as will schools which organize fundraisers and special events.
The former Gallant government had introduced a ban on selling some sugar-laden products back in June to encourage youth to make healthier choices.
Dairy farmers were upset by the move noting how the nutritional value in chocolate milk far outweighed the small sugar content in it.
