Dieppe is taking steps to understand the needs of teens.
Their hope is to broaden the understanding of future programming and recreation.
Director of Community Development Denis LeBlanc says a survey has been launched for residents between 12 and 18 years old and their parents.
“We know our world has changed a little bit since COVID and over the past twenty years. Definitely, their world has changed. We felt that the city of Dieppe was doing pretty good in their offering for other populations, but maybe missing the boat on the 12 to 18-year-old gap. We decided to partner with a consulting company to identify what we’re offering at this point, what we’re not offering and what should we be offering. We want that answer from the kids themselves,” LeBlanc says.
In 2021, the City completed a Recreation Master Plan, and that’s when they realized there may be gaps in their programming.
“We recognize that the teenagers in our community have unique needs, and we want to ensure that they receive the best possible services,” says LeBlanc
They’re hoping to have over 400 people complete the survey before January 5, 2024, in an effort to get accurate and valid data.
The plan is to take the results from the surveys and then break the teens into smaller groups, and hold conversation groups with them.
