500,000 lights in Downtown Moncton for holiday season

It’s beginning to feel very festive in Moncton.

Teams have been working hard to brighten up the downtown.

Executive Director for Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc Patrick Richard says most people don’t realize how many bulbs it takes.

“Our team has been hard at work, decorating the downtown with over 500,000 holiday lights. I don’t think people realize the work that goes into putting up angels and shooting stars and bigger angels on top of City Hall and the ornaments. The team has been working since midnight on Halloween, and it has been a sprint since then,” Richard says.

He adds last year was the first year that St. George had its own brand new set of ornaments or lights, “That was really exciting!”

Richard says the biggest showpiece is the giant ornament at the corner of Main and Canada Street, in front of the Avenir Centre next to the Hyatt Hotel.

He encourages everyone to get their selfie taken prior to Christmas, while the ornament is still up, and post it to social media.
