Trudeau holding stance that Alberta should not pull out of CPP

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set on his stance that Alberta should not pull out of Canada’s Pension Plan.

Danielle Smith, the premier of Alberta, has recently said she’s exploring the idea of Alberta having its own pension plan. However, Trudeau told reporters, he’s heard from many provinces that are really concerned.

“The idea that Alberta might not just make their own pensioners poorer by pulling out, but impact Canadians from coast to coast is not something that most Albertans would want, let alone, most Canadians,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau penned a letter to Smith last week saying he would do everything he could to make sure Alberta does not pull out of CPP, saying it would expose millions to greater volatility and deny them stability. While, Smith wrote a letter back saying she did not like his tone and if there was some effect, it would not be as severe as Trudeau implies.

Smith says the choice should be up to Albertans.
