Saint John residents may notice some movement at American Iron and Metal this weekend.
The provincial government and Port Saint John reassured it’s not business as usual after a large fire.
Operations remain shut down at the AIM Recycling plant, but a shipment of shredded metal not impacted by the fire on September 14th will be exported overseas.
A vessel is expected to berth alongside the AIM facility in preparation for loading which will take around three to four days to complete.
In a statement, the province and Port say, “The AIM facility remains restricted from receiving new product and operation of the metal shredder is not permitted as per the Province of New Brunswick’s order. Only metal that was previously on site and ready for export will be permitted to be loaded.”
Fire investigator Rob Simonds and the task force investigating the fire have approved this removal.
