New tool assists families if a fire breaks out

A new tool will teach families how to react when there is a fire in their home.

Three mobile fire prevention trailers, designed as a kitchen and a bedroom will allow families an opportunity for a hands-on learning experience in a fire situation.

Local firefighters will assist by teaching the precautions needed to stay safe while cooking.

Children will learn how to respond while parents will learn to properly extinguish a cooking fire.

October 8th through 14th is Fire Prevention week, and the theme is ‘This year’s theme is Cooking safety starts with you’

Communities are encouraged to reach out to their local fire departments to schedule a mobile trailer visit.

“The fire prevention trailer teaches people the simple, yet critical, precautions to stay safe while cooking,” said Provincial Fire Marshal Michael Lewis. “Children will learn how to respond to an alarm or smoky conditions, while parents will be taught the proper way to extinguish a cooking fire.”
