Moncton Woman Disappointed By Park Vandalism

A recent trip to Mapleton Park has left a Moncton woman very angry.

Tracy Wilson regularly walks the park, taking nature photographs.

She says on Monday, she found several of the trees at the Mapleton Road entrance had been vandalized with blue spray paint, “I kept walking, and every few feet, there was more on trees. Then when I walked to the other end, at the Gorge Road entrance, there were birdhouses smashed. It’s disrespectful really, especially the birdhouses, these are memorials. They have pictures of their pets in them because they used to love walking in Mapleton park. I was very upset about that.”

The damage has been reported to the City and they are doing a further investigation to determine the extent.

“This is where we go to de-stress and look at nature all around and then you see spray-painted trees. It makes me angry,” Wilson adds.

City Spokesperson Isabelle Leblanc is also encouraging residents to report any issues of vandalism either through the report an issue form on the City’s website homepage or by calling their Dispatch Centre at 859-2643.

More to come….
