4 people charged after Moncton home invasion

Three men and a woman from Moncton have been charged following an assault and home invasion in the community.

RCMP say they responded to a report of a home invasion on Mountain Road shortly before 2 p.m. on Feb. 10.

Several people reportedly broke into the home of an elderly man, assaulted him with an axe, and then fled the scene by car.

One of the responding officers saw the suspect’s car leaving and began to follow it. The officer attempted to pull the car over but the vehicle fled.

Police pursued the car until it collided with a second vehicle. The four suspects then attempted to run away but were arrested a short time later with assistance from the RCMP K-9 unit.

Mounties said the elderly victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Feb. 14, a 32-year-old man, a 39-year-old man, a 48-year-old man, and a 29-year-old woman were charged with home invasion, aggravated assault, and unlawful confinement.

One of them was also charged with obstruction, intent to commit an indictable offence, fleeing from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving while impaired by drugs. The woman was also charged with obstruction.

All four remain in custody and are scheduled to return to court on Thursday for bail hearings.
