33‑year‑old woman dies after hit‑and‑run on Micmac road

A 33‑year‑old woman from Esgenoopetitj has died after being struck in what the RCMP described as a hit‑and‑run on Micmac Road.

Officers were called to the area around 3:56 a.m. on Saturday after a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian and fled.

Police said they believe the vehicle was travelling southeast when it veered onto the shoulder and struck the woman, who died at the scene.

RCMP said the driver left before officers arrived.

Ambulance New Brunswick, the coroner’s office and an RCMP collision reconstructionist were brought in to assist with the investigation.

Micmac Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has dash‑cam footage, to contact the Neguac RCMP at 506-776-3000.

Anonymous tips can be shared through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitting a Secure Web Tip.
