Growth in the Sport of Pickleball in Greater Moncton

The sport of Pickleball is growing across the country, with hundreds of thousands of people playing the sport in Canada.

There are over 600 active players in Greater Moncton, with most between the ages of 18 and 34 years old.

It’s a sport that is a cross between tennis and table tennis.

Spokesperson Maurice Bellieveau says since the club started up in May in a partnership with Curl Moncton, membership has grown to 218 members, between the ages of 17 and 70, “We built six dedicated pickleball courts and we are the only club in Atlantic Canada that has dedicated pickleball seven days a week. We are open from 7 am to 10 pm. You can register online for a session. Training is also offered on Saturdays.”

He says one of the most exciting things, is the fact that a third of the people who play pickleball in their Club, had never the sport before.

The Club is run by a volunteer committee.
