There is cautious momentum all sides will inch towards a deal on increased health transfers when premiers meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday.
The in-person meeting will be held as hospitals are under tremendous pressure to cope with staffing shortages, long wait times and the need for more doctors.
However, it’s unclear how much more money Ottawa is willing to give to provinces and Trudeau has already stated a new deal will not be signed this week.
Premiers are united on the need for a new long-term deal with the feds.
They are looking for $28 billion more in transfers, up from the current amount which stands at $45 billion.
It comes as some provinces look to private clinics to help clear surgery backlogs.
