17th Annual Atlantic Nationals Underway

You’ll notice an increase of classic cars in the city over the next few days

The Atlantic Nationals has returned to the Hub City..for its 17th year.

Chairman Bill Doherty says they get participants from across the country, “We’ve got all ten provinces and we received an entry from a fella coming from Iqaluit. So we have at least one territory this year.”

There are a number of events today, and tomorrow, leading up to the All day Main Street car show and street party, that will be held on Friday. That will close down Main Street for the day and part of the night.

Doherty says, “We have a great cast of celebrities coming this year, with great entertainment. The free downtown concert will feature Glass Tiger this year.”

for Saturday and Sunday all of the vehicles, plus more move over to Centennial Park, where thousands of car enthusiasts will gather to see them.

ATLANTIC NATIONALS STREET CLOSURES

Street Closure – Part 1:

From 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 to 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, Main Street will be closed from Mechanic Street to Downing Street leaving the intersections of Main/Mechanic and Main/Downing open.

Street Closure – Part 2:

From 6 a.m. on Friday, July 7 to 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, Main Street will be closed from Mechanic Street to Lutz Street leaving the intersections of Main/Mechanic and Main/Lutz open. Botsford Street, from Main Street to Queen Street will be closed, leaving the intersection of Botsford/Queen open. Westmorland Street, from Main Street to just past the entrance of the Moncton Market, will be closed. Downing Street will also be closed.

The City is asking motorists to use alternate routes when at all possible, and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but also encourages travellers to check out the events.

Parking Restrictions:

Motorists are asked to respect restricted parking areas and to park in assigned areas around Centennial Park on July 8 and 9 during Atlantic Nationals.
