A recent RCMP traffic enforcement operation ended with nine vehicles being towed and 121 traffic tickets handed out.
On August 25th, members of the New Brunswick RCMP’s Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU) and the Highway Safety Enforcement Branch of the Department of Justice and Public Safety, worked together to conduct multiple traffic enforcement operations in both urban and rural areas in Greater Moncton.
Tickets were handed out under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act, which included 33 for using a hand-held electronic device while driving, and 21 for not wearing a seatbelt.
Many of the vehicles towed were due to fake inspection stickers.
“Fictitious motor vehicle inspection stickers are a widespread issue in New Brunswick,” says Sergeant Ghislain David of the Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit. “The cost of a two-year motor vehicle inspection is $45; however, people are paying over $100 for a fictitious sticker, and are then fined $292.50 and have to pay a towing fee when they are caught.”
