Summer Camp For Young Football Enthusiasts

Summer camp registrations are well underway in the Hub City

The Stewart Fraser camp is open for those who would like to get active, but also have an interest in football.

Director of Operations with the Greater Moncton Football Association Andrew Mawhinney says it’s a great introduction to the sport, “You’ll see right from the basics, up until some more complex stuff. No expectations of experience. The camaraderie, the teambuilding. The friendships you’ll make for a lifetime and increasing your athletic ability.”

He added last year was their best camp to date with just three days, and this year it runs for five from July 18 to 22 at Rocky Stone Field in Moncton.

“It’s continued football training increasing your abilities and with the implementation of the resistance and weight training this year, it will make you that much more of an athlete, not only for football but for any sport you participate in. We’ve increased the age groups as well. So far registration has started strong and continues to grow. Spots will potentially be limited but we are looking forward to another record-breaking year,” Mawhinney adds.

The Stewart Fraser Camp is open to youth between the ages of 10 and 15 years old.

“Every day is a little bit different, but in general, the first day it’ll start with a mini combine. So they’ll test a couple of different areas. They do offensive skills, defensive skills, along with resistance training and weight training. Some fun time at the splash pad at Centennial Park. Time for lunch, lots of water breaks, and on the last day of the camp, they’ll redo the combine so the kids can see their improvement over a week,” Mawhinney explains.

Last year, they saw around 130 registrations and Mawhinney says this year, they’re hoping for up to 150.
