New unit for newborn babies and families at Moncton Hospital

A new obstetrics and newborn care unit for The Moncton Hospital will officially open its doors on Wednesday.

Each year, close to 1,200 babies are born at The Moncton Hospital. 200 of them are admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit, and there are over 3,500 maternal fetal medicine clinic visits annually.

This almost 30,000-square-foot space offers advanced care for newborns and their families, with the latest technology, including wireless fetal monitors and purpose-built rooms with spacious areas for families.

The Jean Elizabeth Saunders Irving Obstetrics and Newborn Care Unit will offer a number of services under one roof, including labour and birth, the neonatal intensive care unit, integrated antepartum and postpartum care and related clinics.

It also features maternal fetal medicine, breastfeeding support and postpartum discharge clinics.

This transformational project is a partnership between Horizon, the Government of New Brunswick, and the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.
