Ukrainian Club of Moncton Looking For Ways To Transport Donations

A new community hub for the Ukrainian Club of Moncton continues to pack with donations for families arriving from the war torn country.

Vehicles lined up outside the Club’s new location at 90 Park Street yesterday, with items including furniture, clothing and appliances.

Spokesperson Nataliia Haidash says currently they have a transportation issue for getting the donations out, “We have things coming and we have people who need these items, but we don’t have a truck where we can load everything and deliver everyday. We have a couple of Ukrainian volunteers who have pickup trucks and we have been using them for over two months already. We are looking for a company who may be able to donate or give us a truck for some time until we deal with the situation of such an influx of people every week.”

Around 200 Ukrainians have arrived in Moncton since the war began and it is anticipated at least another 100 will arrive within the next month.

Donations are still being accepted at the former church on Park Street, on Saturday between 10am and 4pm and again Tuesday and Thursday between 4pm and 8pm.

Club President Myla Muntyan says, “People who are coming to Moncton, they need basic things. Usually they’re coming with nothing. Ukrainians don’t usually have basic things like clothing, even toys, money. They’re fleeing the war and coming to find a safe place. We are trying to give them basic things and give help to people.”
