There’s overwhelming support and donations for Ukrainians in Moncton.
Cars lined up on Park Street yesterday dropping off much needed items for families fleeing the war and coming to Moncton.
They’ve taken over the former St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and are turning it into a community hub for Ukrainians.
Nataliia Haidash says the building is filling up quickly with clothing, furniture and other items, but the generosity has been ongoing since the war began in February, “Next day, my neighbours started bringing food to me. I wasn’t used to it. I was caught by surprise, they started bringing me food, they were bringing toys for my three years old, and then they started putting up Ukrainian flags all over the street.”

Around 200 Ukrainians have arrived in Moncton since the war began and Haidash anticipates there will be at least another 100 within the next month.
Club President Myla Muntyan says, “People who are coming to Moncton, they need basic things. Usually they’re coming with nothing. Ukrainians don’t usually have basic things like clothing, even toys, money. They’re just coming because they’re fleeing the war and that’s why they’re coming to find safe place. We are trying to give these basic things and give help to people.”
Donations can be dropped off at 90 Park Street on Tuesdays and Thursday from 4pm to 8pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
“We’ve seen people with not much money but they still wanted to support us, they still wanted to help. We’ve seen schools doing some events. We’ve seen private businesses organizing private fundraisers and giving us cheques,” Haidash said.
The Ukrainian Club of Moncton is also receiving support from Chamber of Commerce of Greater Moncton, United Way and BrainWorks who are raising funds as well.
