Plans To Rebuild After Book Box Burned

A book box that brought joy to many on the Northwest trail, has been destroyed by vandals.

Three moms who built it to encourage a love of reading, aren’t going to let that stop them.

Nadine Larche, one of the moms who helped maintain it says a cyclist called the Moncton Fire department on Saturday after finding the book box had been set on fire.

“We won’t let one persons actions or a couple of persons actions take away the joy that this book box/little library was giving to many. The plan is to rebuild,” Larche said.

The book box went up almost three years ago, because their families had a love for reading, and they knew others would also enjoy it.

“Often times when I was walking the trail, you see people putting a book, taking a book and then just on social media the past few days after the vandalism happened, people expressed how often they used it. That was very heartwarming how beloved the book box was,” Larche says.

The previous box held around 20 books at a time, for children and adults. Larche knew people were using it because the books were changing all the time.

The moms plan to meet and talk about a new box. Larche says they’ve considered building with something other than wood that might deter vandalism, and they are also looking at another location, with more visibility. She hopes it can be in place within the next month or so.
